At the University of Helsinki, spaces were acoustically treated using the Mollis product in accordance with the architect’s designs.
The Mollis product was implemented in several configurations with open edges, meaning that the surface and the edge are in different colors. The surface is finished with fabric, while the edge reveals the core color of the panel.
In the facilities of the University of Helsinki, acoustic treatment was realised using the Mollis product in accordance with the architect’s design intent. The Mollis panels were specified with open edges, allowing the fabric-covered surface and the exposed black core to form a refined visual contrast. In this project, the black core becomes a deliberate design feature, elegantly visible along the panel edges.
Selected panels installed in the classrooms feature bespoke patterns. The panels were mounted with subtle spacing, enabling the black edge to emerge as an integral part of the overall composition. The pattern language is derived from the building’s historic ceilings, creating a meaningful dialogue between the architectural heritage and the contemporary Mollis acoustic solutions now integrated into the learning spaces. Through this approach, the history of the building is seamlessly woven into the modern interior architecture.
In the common areas, Mollis panels were composed into different spatial configurations tailored to the functional and acoustic requirements of each space. Fabric colours were carefully selected to support the character and identity of the individual interiors. The result is a series of calm, cohesive environments where acoustic comfort and architectural expression are equally prioritised, creating spaces that are pleasant to study, work, and inhabit.
The acoustic products specified for the project are 100% recyclable, allergy-free, M1-certified, and EPD-approved, supporting sustainable design choices and transparent environmental performance without compromising aesthetics or acoustic efficiency.
