Acoustic design enhances overall comfort and wellbeing.
Acoustics is a branch of physics that studies sound and all physical phenomena perceived through human hearing.
Acoustic treatment of a space aims to either enhance or control the transmission, reflection, reverberation, and absorption of sound within an interior. Well-designed acoustics improve overall comfort and usability. They enhance concentration, motivation, endurance at work, and general wellbeing.

Acoustic treatment is achieved by placing various acoustic products in a space to absorb or reflect sound. In addition to walls, ceilings, and floors, acoustic solutions can take the form of lighting, curtains, wall art, or screens. Acoustic elements can also be custom-designed in specific shapes and colours, or seamlessly integrated into textiles.
For reasons of wellbeing and sustainability, the quality requirements for acoustic materials are high. Materials must be durable, ecological, and technically adaptable for construction purposes.
Acoustic materials must also meet strict indoor air quality standards. They must be non-allergenic and particle-free under all conditions. Products must not release fibres even if damaged, which is why they are suitable for demanding environments such as laboratories.

With Akustiikkapalvelut’s products, designers can realize their vision of spaces that are both aesthetic and functional. All our products are ecological, allergy-friendly, certified, high-quality, and customizable. Selecting the right products from the outset ensures long service life and durability, eliminating the need for replacement for many years.
By choosing a high-quality acoustic product from us, you ensure an excellent result down to the smallest detail.

Every acoustic solution starts with understanding how the space will be used.

Akustiikkapalvelut helps you design and deliver high-performance acoustic solutions for public spaces that are as beautiful as they are effective. By carefully selecting the right products and placing them with precision, we optimize the acoustics of the space to achieve maximum comfort and clarity. The best results are achieved when acoustic planning begins early in the design process. That said, our versatile solutions also enable high-quality acoustic upgrades and retrofit treatments whenever the need arises.

Every successful acoustic design starts with a clear understanding of how the space will be used. What happens in the space? Which sounds should be clearly heard, and which should be controlled or reduced? By answering these questions, we create tailored acoustic environments that enhance both functionality and experience.

"Great acoustics are never accidental they are defined by how a space is used, shaped, and built."

Different spaces require different acoustic characteristics. Concert halls, daycare centers, schools, hospitals, recording studios, industrial halls, sports facilities, banks and meeting rooms all place unique demands on acoustic performance.Designing acoustics for a performance venue where the audience is focused on listening is fundamentally different from planning an open-plan office where employees need to concentrate on work or customer interaction. In all cases, the common starting point is reducing unwanted noise.

Akustiikkapalvelut designs acoustic solutions based on spatial plans and the specific acoustic requirements of each space. You can focus fully on interior design while we take care of the technical solutions behind it.
For designers and architects this means a faster and smoother project process. You do not need to spend time searching for suitable products or risk costly mistakes. We help you select the right solutions from the start tailored to both the space and your budget.

Thanks to Akustiikkapalvelut’s adaptable products and solution oriented approach interior designers and architects are free to explore their creativity and bring their design concepts to life without compromising on acoustic performance.

Desired sound, unwanted noise, and controlled reverberation

Acoustics are often described in everyday language as either good or bad. In reality, acoustics refer to all sound-related characteristics of a space, including speech intelligibility, background noise, sound insulation, and reverberation time. The intended use of a space determines which sounds are beneficial and which are disruptive. Beneficial sounds include, for example, music in a concert hall or a lecturer’s voice. Disruptive sounds are created by background noise or unnecessary echo, which is evaluated through reverberation time.

Reverberation time refers to the duration of sound after the sound source has stopped. Even when the source is no longer active, sound remains audible for a short moment because the surfaces of the space reflect it. Reverberation time is defined as the time it takes for the sound level to decrease by 60 dB after the sound source has stopped. When reverberation time is short, the previous word has time to fade before the next one reaches the listener. As a result, speech is clear and easy to understand. When reverberation time is long, speech intelligibility is reduced.

People naturally respond by slowing their speech, raising their voice, or increasing the volume of sound sources such as stereo systems or televisions. This, in turn, makes the environment even noisier. By placing the right acoustic products in the space, overall noise levels decrease and disruptive sounds are reduced. As a result, people naturally lower their speaking volume.

You do not need any technical knowledge of acoustics. You can leave that to us. Akustiikkapalvelut can carry out acoustic studies when needed. Extensive and demanding acoustic analyses are conducted in collaboration with professional acousticians.

This allows you to focus on design work while we deliver an acoustic solution that meets both aesthetic and performance requirements. Would you like to learn more about the fundamentals of acoustics? Read more from here.

An effective acoustic product captures and absorbs sound energy.

In acoustic design, the decisive factors are the intended use of the space, its form, and its structural characteristics. The purpose of acoustic treatment is to address the unique conditions of each space, enhance the audibility of desired sound, and prevent or reduce unwanted noise.

Open and enclosed spaces present different acoustic challenges. In open spaces, reverberation time often increases unless there are sufficient sound-absorbing surfaces to control it.

Enclosed spaces, on the other hand, limit the movement of sound waves. Depending on the sound-absorbing properties of the surface materials, sound is reflected back into the space, creating reverberation.

"At its best, acoustics become an aesthetic experience."

In acoustic design, surface materials play a key role in sound absorption. The more sound a material absorbs, the less sound is reflected back into the space.

Materials that are highly air-permeable and porous, such as wool, are particularly effective sound absorbers. These materials absorb sound waves and efficiently reduce disturbing echoes and reverberation. For this reason, Akustiikkapalvelut products are made from materials such as 100 percent wool, recycled plastic bottles, wood fiber wool, and PET recycled felt.

Hard, sound-reflective surfaces provide little to no sound absorption. The role of acoustic treatment is to balance these reflective surfaces and guide sound reflections so that an absorptive surface is always positioned opposite a hard surface.

It is important to note that a highly dampened space does not automatically mean good acoustics. Excessive absorption can reduce overall sound levels to the point where audibility becomes a challenge. By choosing a high-quality acoustic product, you ensure a refined and reliable result down to the smallest detail. Our products perform exactly as specified, and the acoustic properties of each product are documented.

Acoustics designed to delight the eyes and the ears

At its best, acoustics also create aesthetic experiences. Our starting point is functional acoustics that are beautiful and versatile.

Acoustic products can also be used as interior design elements. They can shape the identity and atmosphere of a space through color, function as pinboards, space dividers, furniture, or screens. Acoustic solutions can take the form of wall art, signage, three-dimensional patterns, or carefully composed spatial installations.

Acoustics can adapt to many purposes without compromising acoustic performance or quality. The versatility of acoustic products has increased their use in large, open spaces where hard materials and surfaces such as concrete and glass are often favored.
